John joins all-star writing/producing team for series based on THE ALIENIST
John has signed on as a writer for the upcoming series THE ALIENIST, an adaptation of Caleb Carr’s bestselling novel. The series is a joint venture between TNT, Paramount Television, and Anonymous Content.
John will be joining an already stellar writing team including Gina Gionfriddo (House of Cards, Law & Order), and E. Max Frye (Band of Brothers) and Hossein Amini (Drive). Cary Fukunaga (True Detective), will direct and executive produce the series, along with fellow executive producers, Hossein Amini, Eric Roth (Forrest Gump, The Curious Case of Benjamin Button), Steve Golin (Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind), Rosalie Swedlin (Live from Baghdad), and co-executive producer, Amy Kaufman (Sin Nombre). Caleb Carr, will also serve as a consulting producer.
More information on The Alienist and who John will be collaborating with.
This is wonderful news! “The Alienist” has defied adaptation for so long — too long. That it is being shepherded into film by this remarkable team — John Sayles, Cary Fukunaga, Caleb Carr himself, and so many talented others (and that it has been allowed the breathing room of episodic exposition rather than the amputational excision of a 100-minute feature) is brilliant. Mr. Carr’s deliciously imagined world will be well served by the team assembled — and those of us who have waited and wondered for decades will reap the inevitable benefits. Bravo!
Does this mean the East coast will be losing John and Maggie for the West coast?
Fantastic! Television is offering some real gems, lately.
Yes!!! Thank you, John, for ALL of your writing (literature and screenplays) and directing. I love Hossein Amini’s ‘Drive’ script, and Cary Fukunaga’s directing on ‘True Detective’ was excellent. I hope this gig helps fund your next motion picture effort!
So great to hear that your voice will be over the airwaves. It must be a good story if you’re involved. Peace ~ Cathie
